Yankees Have Considered Matt Chapman At Shortstop

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jan 2, 2022 10:47 pm

The New York Yankees are expected to be very active once the Major League Baseball lockout ends.

Shortstop is the biggest need for the Yankees, with Carlos Correa and Trevor Story still available on the free agent market.

Buster Olney mentioned on The Michael Kay Show that the Yankees have considered Matt Chapman as an option at short.

\"If I were to guess, I think they\'ll end up with one of the Oakland guys,\" Olney said.

\"Matt Chapman, for example, maybe you acquire him to be the one-year shortstop. I know he\'s a third baseman, he\'s exceptional, but if you added Matt Chapman, you would be improving your defense on the left side of the infield. And I know the Yankees have talked a little bit about this internally. Look, can Matt Chapman play shortstop? I think they wind up with one of those guys. Maybe it\'s (Matt) Olson and then they hold back and they pay Aaron Judge.\"

When there is still Correa and Story on the market, you do not think about Chapman at SS. I don't understand why the Yanks brass immediately go to options B & C before giving A a shot.
