Dusty Baker Laments Lack Of U.S.-Born Black Players In World Series

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Oct 28, 2022 12:41 pm

There will be no United States-born Black players in the World Series this year for the first time since 1950, shortly after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier.

That fact deeply disturbs Dusty Baker, 73, one of two Black Major League managers.

\"What hurts is that I don\'t know how much hope that it gives some of the young African-American kids,\" Baker said. \"Because when I was their age, I had a bunch of guys, [Willie] Mays, [Hank] Aaron, Frank Robinson, Tommy Davis -- my hero -- Maury Wills, all these guys. We need to do something before we lose them.\"

The Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies will announce their 26-man rosters several hours before Game 1 on Friday night at Minute Maid Park, and neither is expected to have a U.S.-born Black player.

\"I don\'t think that that\'s something that baseball should really be proud of,\" said Baker, who won a World Series as an outfielder with the Dodgers in 1981 and is seeking his first championship as a manager. \"It looks bad. It lets people know that it didn\'t take a year or even a decade to get to this point.\"

Cringe. That's to be expected from the old moron Dusty, though.

Part of it is lack of resources to be able to be included in baseball and the other part is a lot of Black kids just think baseball is boring unfortunately.

Pretty selective outrage there. It's like saying there's a severe lack of people who wear a green shirt on Tuesdays. C'mon dude. I'm all for inclusiveness, and if you want to talk about lack of black players overall in MLB, you can ask that question, but this is pretty off the wall.

It's not even that the number of black players overall in MLB is bad. US population is 19% Hispanic, 12% black. African Americans make up ~10% of US born players. Hispanics are like, 0% of US born NBA players.

Just because racism exists doesn't mean every athlete in every sport in America has to be black.

Yeah, I don't understand it. NBA is 80% black, but imagine somebody saying there aren't enough American born whites in the NBA finals. It's just completely ignorant and out there. NFL is around 60% black, so it's clear that most American born black athletes prefer those 2 sports.

Dusty Baker whining about this only hurts and undermines anti-racism and equality talks.
