Diaz (.3295.), who trailed Seager (.3298) by percentage points heading into Sunday\'s season finale, sat out game 162.
The Tampa Bay Rays\' playoff seeding was set, allowing Diaz to sit. The Texas Rangers were still trying to win the AL West title, so Seager played and went 0-for-4. His batting average dipped to .327, giving Diaz the batting crown.
Diaz is the first Tampa Bay player to win a batting title.
