MLB Holds Off On Rules After Angels\' Salary Dump

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Dec 5, 2023 12:47 pm

Major League Baseball has decided to wait at least another year before considering the implementation of rules that would prevent clubs from dumping players into the waiver market late in the season, according to sources.

The Los Angeles Angels added aggressively before the trade deadline this past season, but they struggled in the month of August and placed a number of players on waivers.

The moves allowed them to shed salaries and stay under the luxury tax threshold.

While baseball executives with other teams understood the strategy, there was some concern within the industry about this becoming a regular late-season practice for failing teams, with a flood of established players suddenly being given away, according to sources.
