The Yankees are over the highest tax threshold. If they sign Snell they could be looking at having to pay over $60 million (salary + tax) for him. I can't see Hal Steinbrenner remotely being interested in doing that. Steinbrenner is notoriously luxury tax adverse and Snell has way too many question marks for a play it close to the vest type like Hal to take a risk for that much money.
His chance of being a Yankee evaporated when he declined their initial offer and they pivoted to Stroman.
