Starting what could be his final season with the New York Yankees, Gleyber Torres was clear about his intent.

\"I don\'t want to leave,\" the 27-year-old infielder said Wednesday. \"I want to be a Yankee for life.\"

Torres was an All-Star in his first two seasons with the Yankees in 2018 and 2019, slumped badly for two years, and has rebounded to become a productive if not spectacular player. He hit .273 with 25 home runs, 68 RBIs and 13 stolen bases last season with an .800 OPS.

Highly unlikely unless he's willing to take a big discount (doubt it).

The Yankees are looking at having to pony up big to resign Soto, will still be hovering around the highest tax line (even before resigning Soto) and have both Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas (both at AAA) and DJ LeMahieu (who the Yankees will still own 2 years $30 million to after this season) as potential long and short term (respectively) options to replace Torres. Then when you factor in the name in front of Steinbrenner on the office door is "Hal" not "George"...yeah, I can't see the Yankees commiting a big enough and long enough contract to keep Torres.

They should look to deal Torres (now or definitely before the trade deadline), move DJL to 2nd as the short term option and just move on.
