Last week it was reported that Jerry Reinsdorf was \"open to selling\" the Chicago White Sox and was engaged in talks with a group of prospective buyers, including former Major League pitcher Dave Stewart.

Stewart has spent the last several years focused on bringing a team to Nashville.

For his part, Rob Manfred is downplaying the possibility of the White Sox leaving the city of Chicago.

\"Chicago is an anchor city for us,\" the commissioner said. \"I think that the White Sox are in a difficult situation. I think the location of the stadium is tough, but I have confidence that things are going to work out in Chicago and that we\'re going to continue to have two teams in Chicago.\"

Folks know better than to trust what comes out of Manfred's mouth. It seems his default position is to lie, & this doesn't seem like any sort of exception where he might be telling the truth.

chicago is one of the biggest markets in north america. they're not going anywhere. the league would seize the team from Jerry before letting it move anywhere else.

I agree, it would be **** stupid to relocate.

But the MLB just OK'd a move from one of the biggest media markets in the country (Bay Area) to what's seemingly now the smallest media market in the MLB (Vegas) all so one owner could continue to absorb revenue sharing $ from other franchises. The other owner's didn't want to vote against that "right" for the A's ownership to move where ever they wanted (/could get the most public $ and revenue sharing $). And I have doubts that the other owners would vote against Jerry trying to get absolute max dollar for the franchise, even if threatening to relocate - as the other owners would want for preserve that option for themselves. Don't be surprised to hear the argument that it's OK since Chicago still has the Cubs, just like the Bay Area heard it was OK for the A's to leave because the Giants are still there. MLB owners don't give a ****. They're mostly focused on stacking $ to seemingly see who can die with the most.
