The Philadelphia Phillies have posted the four highest Opening Day payrolls in franchise history over the last four seasons and that trend doesn\'t figure to change.
Chairman John Middleton expects the club\'s payroll to continue to climb in 2025.
\"Given where we are in contract cycles and minor league people coming up, I expect the player payroll to be higher [than this year] rather than lower,\" Middleton said. \"I\'d be surprised if it\'s the same, and I\'d be stunned, very stunned, if it\'s lower. I don\'t see it being lower.\"
According to projections, the Phillies have somewhere between $259 million and $270 million already committed to their 2025 payroll in terms of pure dollars.
