Report: Dodgers, Yankees Could Pursue Nolan Arenado Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Dec 2, 2024 1:16 pm

The St. Louis Cardinals have put Nolan Arenado on the trade block and this year\'s World Series participants could be interested.

\"One guy that could be a possibility [for the New York Yankees] is Arenado from St. Louis,\" NJ.com\'s Randy Miller said on WFAN Radio.

\"I think the Cardinals are trying to trade him, St. Louis would have to pick up some of the money and maybe the Yankees could have a deal where they trade some prospects. ... I keep hearing it\'s going to be either the Yankees or the [Los Angeles] Dodgers -- I think he\'s a West Coast guy that would prefer to go to the Dodgers and I think the Dodgers want him.\"

Arenado is under contract through the 2027 season with $52 million left on his deal.

Dodgers have Muncy at 3rd already. He can move to DH or 1st, but those are covered by Ohtani and Freeman. Arenado would certainly be an upgrade defensively over Muncy, but I don't see Dodgers moving Muncy who just had .852 OPS and makes only $13M a year

I could totally see them moving Muncy. I believe his contract extension was designed intentionally for him to be traded in a sell high move. A lot of teams could use him either as a 1B or DH so they can get a great return for him.
