Juan Soto Nearing Decision On Free Agency
Juan Soto is reportedly close to making his free agent decision on a contract that is expected to exceed $600 million over 15 seasons. The New York Yankees, New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers are the five known teams pursuing Soto.
Soto\'s contract could exceed the one signed by Shohei Ohtani last winter. Ohtani secured the largest guarantee in baseball history with the 10-year, $700 million deal he signed with the Dodgers last offseason. But more than 95 percent of Ohtani\'s contract is deferred, bringing the present-day value down to $460 million for luxury tax purposes.
In 157 games last season with the Yankees, Soto had an OPS o f.989 with 41 home runs. Ohtani finished third in American League MVP voting behind teammate Aaron Judge and Bobby Witt Jr.
