Paul Goldschmidt struggled last season, which included an 0-for-32 slump at one point in May.
Goldschmidt, who was the 2022 National League MVP, spoke to the media on Thursday after finalizing a one-year, $12.5 million contract with the New York Yankees.
\"The feeling was just like, \'Man, I\'m better than this,\'\" he said. \"But you got to go out and prove it. I mean, if you don\'t perform, then you know you\'re not going to be playing. And I think that\'s just the truth in this game and in life.\"
The 37-year-old left the St. Louis Cardinals to join the Yankees, who pivoted after losing Juan Soto in free agency.
