Blue Jays, Anthony Santander Agree To Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jan 20, 2025 6:01 pm

The Toronto Blue Jays and outfielder Anthony Santander have agreed to a deal, a source confirmed to ESPN on Monday.

The switch-hitting Santander, 30, hit .235 for the Baltimore Orioles in 2024 but set career-highs with 44 home runs, 102 RBI and 91 runs scored.

He spent his first eight MLB seasons with the Orioles, hitting 155 home runs with a .246 batting average.

I feel for Jays fans.

I was worried this deal would happen. I think Santander is a PRIME regression candidate next year. He's not the guy we need to take us over the top and get back to the playoffs.

This screams desperation. It's almost as if the Jays needed to sign someone after missing out on Roko and other big names. I hope for both Toronto and Santander that it is a productive partnership, but I just don't see the production to equal the contract.

100% desperation esp with Vladdy's FA coming up and Bichette's regression/FA too.

Giving a 5year deal with a 6th year club option (overpaid by a year just to get the deal done) just makes the end of the contract an anchor. We see what's happening with Springer as he ages, and yet, here we are again doing the same thing. If we were going all-in the next 2 years, this would make sense. But striking out on the major FAs and not really bolstering the lineup/bullpen as we needed to doesn't strike me as going all-in. The WS champs added more in the offseason than we did for cryin' out loud lol.
