Kristian Campbell, Red Sox Agree To Eight-Year, $60M Extension

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Apr 2, 2025 6:48 pm

The Boston Red Sox have agreed to an eight-year, $60 million extension with rookie second baseman Kristian Campbell, sources told ESPN. The deal, which runs through 2034, includes two club options and marks the earliest in a career the Red Sox have ever committed to a player with a multi-year contract.

Campbell, 22, earned the second base job out of spring training after being named the consensus minor league player of the year in 2024. With his unorthodox right-handed swing, he hit .330/.439/.558 with 20 home runs and 77 RBIs last season while advancing from High-A to Triple-A. In his first week in the majors, Campbell has impressed by hitting .375/.500/.688 with one home run.

The deal adds to Boston\'s recent spending spree and growing core of locked-up talent, which includes Rafael Devers (signed through 2033), Ceddanne Rafaela (2031), and recently extended ace Garrett Crochet (six years, $170 million). Campbell, drafted in the fourth round with compensation from Xander Bogaerts\' departure, provides stability at second base, a position that has seen six different team leaders in games played since Dustin Pedroia\'s retirement after 2017.
