Red Sox\'s Roman Anthony Tops Updated 2025 MLB Prospect Rankings

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed May 21, 2025 6:05 pm

ESPN\'s Kiley McDaniel has released his updated MLB prospect rankings for 2025, with Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony claiming the top spot. The rankings reflect recent graduations including former No. 1 prospect Roki Sasaki.

Anthony retained his position as the default top prospect after demonstrating impressive raw power. McDaniel notes the only area for improvement in Anthony\'s offensive game is \"turning more of his 30-plus-homer-level raw power into home runs with better or more consistent lift/pull to his swing.\"

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Bubba Chandler ranks second, described as a \"polished, big league-ready potential front-line starter\" with a high-90s fastball that may be the best in the minor leagues. San Diego Padres shortstop Leodalis De Vries rounds out the top three, praised for his on-base skills and defensive ability.

Several notable prospects have graduated from eligibility this season, including Roki Sasaki, Dylan Crews, Jackson Jobe, and Jasson Dominguez. Others like Matt Shaw, Nick Kurtz, and Agustin Ramirez are expected to graduate within the next month.

Top Prospects to Watch

The updated rankings feature several clusters of similarly-rated prospects, including three teenage shortstops (De Vries, Walcott, Made) in the top five. The list also maintains several prospect pairings that have been ranked together since their draft classes, including Mayer/Lawlar from 2021 and Clark/Jenkins from 2023.
