Pete Alonso and the Baltimore Orioles have agreed to a five-year, $155 million deal, which is the highest annual average value for a first baseman.

Alonso had 38 homers and an .871 OPS last season with the New York Mets. Alonso re-signed with the Mets last offseason on a two-year, $54 million deal that had an opt-out for this winter.

The Mets were reportedly reluctant to offer more than three seasons to Alonso, who is 31 years old. Alonso is represented by Scott Boras.

Another head scratching move from the Mets. How do you not bring this guy back? $155 is too much, but you'll pay Soto 5x that when he's not even as good a player as Pete. This team just keeps those let downs coming. Everything single move so far is a downgrade.

I'm not defending Soto's salary, because I do think it's ridiculous, but the guy just put up a 40+ HR season with almost 40 SB and he's only 27 years old.
