MLB Team Rankings For The Week Of May 7th

The Opsera is a statistic RealGM Executive Editor Chris Reina created in order to objectively rank teams by how well they hit (OPS) and pitch (ERA).

In order to determine the Opsera rating for each, we take their OPS, multiply that number by 10 to move the decimal point over one place to the right and then subtract their ERA from that number.

All statistics are through Monday, May 6 games.

Rankings from last week are in parenthesizes.

1. (5) Detroit Tigers – 4.44

The Tigers have jumped up from fifth to first thanks to four straight wins and nine in their last ten.

2. (1) Colorado Rockies – 4.36

The Rockies are coming back down from an early-season high, but they are still in the NL West race.

3. (2) Boston Red Sox – 4.34

Closer issues aside (injuries to Andrew Bailey and Joel Hanrahan) haven\'t kept Boston from remaining strong.

4. (3) Texas Rangers – 4.31

Texas is one of just three teams with 20 wins through Monday night\'s action.

5. (4) Atlanta Braves – 4.24

The Braves have clubbed 44 home runs, putting them on pace for 230 this season.
