NFL Coaches Believe Steelers Got Steal In Aaron Rodgers Signing

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jun 17, 2025 6:18 pm

Multiple NFL coaches who observed Aaron Rodgers closely last season believe the Pittsburgh Steelers acquired exceptional value in signing the 41-year-old quarterback to a $13.65 million contract that could reach $20 million with incentives.

A veteran NFL offensive coach told reporters that Rodgers remains highly effective despite his age. The assessment comes from coaches who watched Rodgers during his tenure with the New York Jets, where he played under a lame-duck coaching staff.

Despite lacking chemistry with his primary receiver Garrett Wilson, Rodgers threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 28 touchdowns last season. The performance impressed coaches who believe Pittsburgh addressed a longstanding quarterback deficiency.

The signing represents a significant upgrade over Pittsburgh\'s recent quarterback play since Ben Roethlisberger\'s retirement. Rodgers provides the arm strength and pocket presence the Steelers have lacked in recent seasons.

\"He\'s still throwing the s--- out of the ball, honestly. He\'s the best quarterback they\'ve had since [Ben Roethlisberger]. We will see how the body holds up, but I think he\'s going to help them immensely,\" said the veteran NFL offensive coach.
An AFC executive acknowledged mobility concerns while praising Rodgers\' remaining physical tools. The quarterback\'s field vision and arm strength could transform Pittsburgh\'s offensive capabilities despite questions about his durability.

\"Look, the mobility is an issue, there\'s no doubt. But where he helps them is with the plus arm strength and the field vision from the pocket. They haven\'t had that. I\'m not sure that will be enough, but the offense will be at least respectable,\" the executive said.

The deal allows Pittsburgh to compete immediately rather than rebuild through the draft.

Of course they got a steal. The Jets are paying him more over the next year than the Steelers.
