Chiefs Improve Statistically But 0-5 In Close Games After 11-0 In 2024

The Kansas City Chiefs have posted significant statistical improvements through 10 games compared to last season, yet sit at 5-5 instead of the 9-1 record they held at this point in 2024. The team has improved in nearly every measurable category but struggled dramatically in close games.

Kansas City is averaging 25.4 points per game compared to 24.0 last season. The Chiefs are also allowing 18.1 points per game, an improvement from 19.1 in 2024.

The Chiefs finished last season 11-0 in games decided by eight or fewer points. They are 0-5 in such games this season, highlighting a dramatic statistical regression despite improved overall performance.

Kansas City\'s point margin per game improved to plus-7.3 from plus-4.9 last season. The Chiefs\' offensive EPA per play increased to 0.13 from 0.06, while their defensive EPA per play improved slightly to 0.02 from 0.03.

The Chiefs currently sit ninth in the AFC standings at 5-5. They are tied with Houston and Baltimore, both also 5-5, and trail seventh-seeded Jacksonville by one game.

The Jaguars hold the head-to-head tiebreaker advantage over Kansas City. Four of the Chiefs\' remaining games are against teams currently ahead of them in the AFC playoff standings.

Kansas City\'s turnover margin improved to plus-3 from minus-5 last season. The Chiefs remain just one game out of the playoff picture with seven games remaining. However, the difficulty of their remaining schedule adds urgency to their playoff push.
