Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts said Wednesday he was not surprised by reports of frustration from teammates regarding his playing style, calling it \"the nature of the position.\" Some players have grown frustrated with Hurts\' hesitancy to throw into tight windows against zone coverage, according to The Athletic.
Veteran reporter Derrick Gunn reported the frustration stems from Hurts playing \"his game\" instead of executing what is discussed during the week. The reigning Super Bowl MVP has not been approached by anyone inside the organization about the concerns. Gunn compared the situation to the one the Eagles faced with Carson Wentz prior to the franchise winning its first Super Bowl with Nick Foles as quarterback.
The Eagles rank 25th in total yards (300.1 per game), 28th in passing (184.9) and 29th in third-down conversion rate (33.87%) this season. Philadelphia averages 115 rushing yards per game, down from 179 in 2024 when they ranked second in the NFL.
The team leads the league with a 75% red zone conversion rate and has committed just four giveaways, key factors in their 8-2 record.
\"I\'m not surprised by anything. This is kind of the nature of the position,\" Hurts said. \"But I put my energy and my focus on trying to go out there and do my best and trying to learn, trying to build.\"
Hurts has completed 67% of his passes with 16 touchdowns to one interception, the best TD-to-INT ratio in the league. His QB rating of 107 ranks fifth in the NFL behind Lamar Jackson, Drake Maye, Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff.
He owns a 54-22 career regular-season record but has been held under 200 passing yards six times this season. The Eagles scored just 26 combined points in their last two wins against Green Bay and Detroit.
\"I don\'t necessarily believe everything that\'s being written,\" Nick Sirianni said. \"I just don\'t fall into the trap of believing everything you see or read.\"
