49ers Unlikely To Keep Both Jajuan Jennings, Brandon Aiyuk In 2026

The San Francisco 49ers are unlikely to sign wide receiver JaJuan Jennings to a significant contract extension unless they move on from Brandon Aiyuk\'s $30 million annual deal. Jennings requested a trade during the offseason after extension talks failed, though he received additional incentives for the current season. While the team hasn\'t ruled out his return, they will not use the franchise tag on him.

Jennings sought a lucrative extension following his breakout 2024 campaign. His request created tense moments with the organization, leading to the trade demand. The 49ers ultimately added performance-based incentives to his current deal instead of a long-term extension.

The 28-year-old has struggled with rib, ankle and shoulder injuries this season. He has caught 32 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns through nine games. His production has declined significantly from his 2024 performance.

Last season, Jennings emerged as a key weapon after Aiyuk suffered an ACL tear. He finished with 77 receptions for 975 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games. His expanded role proved he could handle increased responsibilities in San Francisco\'s offense.

Aiyuk\'s massive contract extension complicates the 49ers\' ability to retain multiple high-priced receivers. The team faces difficult financial decisions regarding their wide receiver room moving forward. Jennings appears positioned to test free agency after the season unless San Francisco\'s roster construction changes dramatically.

The franchise tag option remains off the table for Jennings. His market value will likely be determined by his health and performance over the final weeks of the season.
