Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders will start the Cleveland Browns\' final four games of the season, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Monday. The decision follows Sanders\' career-best performance against Tennessee, where he accounted for 394 total yards and four touchdowns in a 31-29 loss that eliminated Cleveland from playoff contention.
Sanders, selected 144th overall in this year\'s draft, has started the Browns\' previous three games. Cleveland holds a 1-2 record in games Sanders has started, including a 24-10 victory over Las Vegas in Week 12 that made him the first Browns quarterback since 1995 to win his NFL debut.
\"I think [Sanders] has constantly and consistently gotten better in each one of these games and how he\'s approached this game,\" Stefanski said. \"He\'s been working very hard. So, I feel good about where his development is heading.\"
Sanders began the season as the No. 4 quarterback on Cleveland\'s depth chart. The Browns traded veterans Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco, while fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion against Baltimore in Week 11, creating Sanders\' opportunity.
The son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and Colorado coach Deion Sanders has completed 52.4 percent of his passes this season. He has thrown for 769 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions while adding 50 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on eight carries.
