Sanchez, Romo, McFadden Amongst NFL's Worst Contracts

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jun 5, 2013 6:20 pm

The NFL's new collective bargaining agreement is undoubtedly favorable to the owners, particularly when it comes to players on their initial contracts out of the draft.

Players like Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson are on extraordinarily cap-friendly deals.

Mark Sanchez, Tony Romo and Matt Schaub were identified as having the worst contracts at the quarterback position. Sanchez will earn $8.8 million this season and counts against the cap at $12.9 million. Romo's new deal will pay him $25 million in year one and average $18 million over five seasons.

Jonathan Stewart and Darren McFadden have the worst contracts at running back, while Mike Wallace and Santonio Holmes are featured at wide receiver.

Champ Bailey, Antonio Cromartie and Carlos Rogers receive special distinction at cornerback and are joined in the secondary by safeties LaRon Landry and Troy Polamalu.

Mario Williams, Ryan Pickett, Gerald McCoy and Jay Ratliff are all on huge deals on the defensive line.

David Harris, Dannell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler are all overpaid at linebacker.

Who is this according to? Holmes is a super bowl MVP and with a quarterback who doesn't suck (i.e. Ben Roethlisberger) would be a pro-bowler.. Mike Wallace just signed his contract so how can you judge when he hasn't played a snap yet? Calvin Johnson has cap numbers of $13.058 million (2014), $20.558 million (2015), $24.008 million (2016), $21.357 million (2017), $17 million in 2018 and $18.25 million in 2019- you think he's still going to be worth 18.25 in 2019?

If Ed Reed misses significant time then he'll be on this list.

The Raiders should be paying D Mac top $ . When he's healthy, he rivals Peterson as the best RB in the league. That's a big "When", though...
