Vince Wilfork has asked for his release from the New England Patriots.
The Patriots approached Wilfork about restructuring his contract in which he is set to earn $7.5 million in 2014 with a cap hit of $11.6 million.
Wilfork played hurt to start 2013 before tearing his Achilles tendon.
Wilfork has been one of the Patriots' best players during his 10-year tenure.
