Owner, GM Wanted RGIII Start As He Alienates Himself From Teammates

The decision for Washington to start Robert Griffin III over Colt McCoy was owener- and general manager-driven, according to multiple sources.

Executive Tony Wyllie strongly denied that, telling ESPN it was the "coach [Jay Gruden's] decision, and the owner has nothing to do with it -- scratch that." 

Dan Snyder and GM Bruce Allen are strong supporters of Griffin and they believe the timing is right for him to return to starting after his Week 2 ankle injury.

Griffin III's support with players, however, is not as strong as it is with the highest levels of the organization, according to sources.

A source who familiar with the incident told ESPN's Britt McHenry that Griffin has "alienated himself" from the locker room.

 

About 15 teammates began shouting when Griffin began addressing the media in the locker room on Friday. Griffin and the reporters had
