The Philadelphia Eagles have cut DeMeco Ryans after four seasons with the franchise.

The Eagles will save $3.5 million with the release of Ryans.

Ryans, 31, earned the "Lion King"-based nickname of Mufasa for his steady leadership and the deep respect he commanded from his teammates.

The Eagles will switch to a 4-3 defense this season.

Such a shame. Ryans was a team leader and is still a good, dependable linebacker. Always hate to lose guys like 'Mufasa'. Hope he lands in a great situation with a SB contender.
