Aaron Hernandez planned his suicide for quite some time, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

The former New England Patriots tight end planned the act "for weeks." The report indicates that Hernandez had given "most of his personal belongings to fellow inmates and covered the floor of his cell in soap," which would prevent him from saving himself if he decided to got against his plans.

The report also says three notes were left in his cell. It had been reported that no letters were left behind.

Remind me how soap on the floor stops him from saving himself? If you can reach the floor then you can reach the floor. Soap isn't going to do anything. You could easily use your toes and not slip to lightly release enough pressure to save your life. This makes no sense at all. He might have done it, but it's useless.

Mainly because if you make the decision to hang yourself and then panic and back out, you won't have the finesse to just lightly put your toes down. You would flail most likely, and the soap would definitely make things worse. If you really backed out, the soap would be a bother but wouldnt prevent you from backing out though

Used to do EMT/Medic work at Santa Rita in CA, and its actually pretty common (the soap on the floor for people who asphyxiate themseves). I'd wager a bit of it is psychological as well, a means of convincing them not to panic and just accept the fate they've given to themselves.

Also, if he was standing on something to reach the noose, then trying to put his feet back down on that would be tricky as it would quickly slip out of his reach, leaving him hanging.
