NFL Could Change Defensive PI To 15-Yard Penalty

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Feb 28, 2018 1:10 pm

The NFL is looking into a number of rules changes this offseason and reportedly will consider making defensive pass interference a 15-yard penalty.

The penalty is currently a spot foul.

If a change is made offenses would have far less to gain by throwing deep to try and draw a penalty from a defensive back downfield.

Defensive pass inference was called 266 times this past season, according to Pro Football Reference. That's more than once per game for an average of 18.09 yards per game.

It will get call 600 times if this rule change goes into effect. This will kill the long ball...when in doubt...tackle the receiver and give up the 15 yds vs. compete for a 50-50 ball

they should go back to the normal rule in the last 2mins of the game just so players dont blatantly foul to avoid a score in critical moments
