Richard Sherman Believes Raising NFL Minimum Critical In New CBA
Richard Sherman is supporting a substantial increase to the NFL\'s minimum salary as part of the ongoing negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement.
“I think the most important thing for our players, honestly, and it’s things that I think some of our players lose perspective on while you’re playing, is long-term health,\" said Sherman. \"And, being able to afford and to get that long-term health once you’re done. … You want to do things that affect the majority of the group. You know, you can’t necessarily worry about the top guys, you know, because you’re like, ‘Man, how come you fix the top guys’ contracts and get them more,’ because those guys are making a ton of money. We’re talking about 60% of our players are on minimum contracts and how can we make sure those guys can see every dime and more of it. Instead of $400,000, why can’t we make it $800,000 as the minimum so that it affects more guys?”
The minimum salary for rookies in 2019 is $495,000.
