Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 3, 2020 3:06 pm

Washington has released the following statement about the status of their franchise nickname.

\"In light of recent events around our country and feedback from our community, the (franchise is) announcing the team will undergo a thorough review of the team\'s name. This review formalizes the internal discussions the team has been having with the league in recent weeks.

\"Daniel Snyder stated \'This process allows the team to take into account not only the proud tradition and history of the franchise but also input fro our alumni, the organization, sponsors, the National Football League and the local community it is proud to represent on and off the field.\'

\"Ron Rivera remarked, \'This issue is of personal importance to me and I look forward to working closely with Dan Snyder to make sure we continue the mission of honoring and supporting Native Americans and our Military.\'

\"We believe this review can and will be conducted with the best interest of all in mind.\"

How about actually speaking with Native Americans and seeing how they feel?

I remember some years back there was a HS teacher from Oklahoma on the radio, speaking on this same topic. He said where he is located there is a significant population of Native Americans, some his students, and that they were all fans of the Washington Redskins.

They did not find it offensive or derogatory, but empowering. Remember, these are people who for the most part are forgotten in the grand scheme of social issues. Having a professional team out there with a name that recognizes them is a positive.
