NFL Likely To Maintain Status Quo With New Media Rights Deals

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Aug 3, 2020 9:45 pm

The NFL is likely to maintain the status quo during this round of media rights negotiations with networks.

ESPN is considered the wild card as they want to upgrade its package, which could mean moving from Monday Night Football. ESPN told the NFL that it wants to upgrade its package.

The NFL met with top executives from CBS, Fox, NBC and ESPN in early June. Deals were expected to be reached by Labor Day, but talks have stalled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic

CBS pitched keeping its Sunday package, while NBC had a similar message for Sunday Night Football. There were talks in the past about NBC expanding to a second NFL package, but NBC\'s executives focused almost exclusively on Sunday night during the meeting.

Fox prioritized keeping its Sunday package more than Thursday Night Football, which is considered the most likely to change hands.

Amazon and other big tech companies are not expected to take a bigger role during this round.
