NFL To Test New Position-Specific Helmet For Lineman

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Feb 19, 2021 1:17 pm

The NFL has helped develop the first position-specific helmet, built for lineman, though it must still undergo testing by the league and the players\' union before being authorized for use.

The helmet was released this week by Vicis and provides additional support in the front, where most head impacts take place for players on the offensive and defensive line.

\"It\'s the stated goal of ours when we started down this road of helmet testing and better understanding concussions and on-field impacts that we would get to the place where helmets would be built for individual positions,\" NFL spokesperson Jeff Miller said Thursday.

That helmet should be for the fullbacks, linebackers, safeties, and RB's. Linemen aren't making consistent forceful head collisions. The man they're about to block is usually just a foot or two infront of them before the snap. Plus they typically use their arms and hands to block.

The league did a study and compared speed positions (like the one’s your referring to) and non-speed positions (which includes linemen):

Individuals that played non-speed positions that had a history of recurrent concussions (three or more), they found, had more damage to their frontal white matter, the part of the brain where CTE takes hold. That wasn’t the case for those that played speed positions and had a history of concussions, suggesting that the way that non-speed players become concussed is different and more dangerous.

Oh that's right. You were the helmet specialist that was missing from the entire project/program that's been underway for years now. Glad someone pointed you toward this. Maybe the NFL should bring you on to committee because of your knowledge in helmet design and actual NFL football experience. Thanks for the insight!

Original article shouldn't have been so lazy. Obviously the extra information posted by TheSheriff was so good and in depth that it even managed to turn you into an arrogant know it all and a self appointed genius on concussions.

My argument was simply based on the common sense that you'll see well over 100 nfl and college skill position players leave the game because of a concussion before you ever witness a single lineman leave the game for a concussion. Nothing more, nothing less, but you wanted to be a pirick
