NFL: All Teams Must Add Minority Offensive Coach

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Mar 29, 2022 12:25 pm

All teams will hire a minority offensive assistant coach for the upcoming season, part of a series of changes announced Monday to address the NFL\'s ongoing diversity efforts.

The coach can be \"a female or a member of an ethnic or racial minority,\" per the policy adopted by NFL owners during their annual meeting.

The coach must work closely with the head coach and the offensive staff, with the goal of increasing minority participation in the pool of offensive coaches that eventually produces the most sought-after candidates for head-coaching positions.

Why offensive coach? Why not just be a coach on either side of the ball? That's a bit silly forcing people to hire those who may not be qualified. Offense and defense are just as important. Sometimes you just have to scratch your head at these rules.
SELL THE TEAM, JIM!!! :curse:

Seems to be the NFL is fine with offensive coaches being more common HC selections these days, and expect that to continue so they are trying to increase the odds of minority HS hires in the future so teams can complain less about lack of qualified minority HC candidates (even though there are several passed over every year for coaches who have proven they can't win in the NFL). I agree it would make sense to promote balance in all respects here, but I'm sure the NFL sees increases in various metrics as a result of having high-scoring games and intends to lean into it.
