Buccaneers Unhappy With Leonard Fournette\'s Weight

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jul 19, 2022 1:24 pm

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reportedly unhappy with Leonard Fournette\'s weight at mandatory minicamp.

The running back didn\'t attend OTAs throughout the offseason and reportedly weighs 260 pounds.

\"Coaches were not happy, and that\'s an understatement, when he didn\'t participate in the OTAs, but then he shows up at the mandatory minicamp weighing damn near 260 [pounds],\" Rick Stroud said of Fournette on the Sports Day Tampa Bay podcast. \"And that\'s not a good sign for a guy that you\'ve just spent a three-year contract on.\"

The Buccaneers signed Fournette to a three-year, $21 million deal after a very productive 2021 season.

Fournette is officially listed at 228 pounds on the Buccaneers website, which means he\'s possibly 30 pounds over his playing weight.

Reports like this are sad.

There is no reason an athlete needs to be in peak shape at the beginning of playing season. Especially a running back who wants to rest the body as much as possible.

Naturally, they want to drop weight as they ramp up the excercise.

If you're thin before you even start, I don't know what upside that is suppoed to bring. It's natural for a human to assume they will lose weight as they do more excercise.

There's a big gap between being in peak shape and being 30 pounds overweight.

Ummm not sure how much you've ever tried to gain muscle or lose fat, but 30lbs is a looooooot to either lose or gain in a healthy manner over a short period of time.

The upside to being in shape before camp is that you don't have to spend half of camp getting in shape instead of participating in football related activities. Pretty **** obvious.

This isn't the NBA with an 82 game regular season, where you can pull a Shaq and be ready for the playoffs. Every game matters in the NFL.
