Tyler Boyd: Burrow-Mahomes Is The New Manning-Brady

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Nov 30, 2022 2:02 pm

Ahead of this weekend\'s matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs, Tyler Boyd made a lofty comparison.

Boyd sees the matchup between Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes as the modern-day version of Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

Manning and Brady faced off 12 times in the regular season and five times in the  playoffs.

\"It\'s going back to that quarterback fight. I look at it like Manning and Brady,\" Boyd said. \"You can’t stop them. It comes down to whoever excels and takes advantage of their opportunities in drives and scores points. These are the types of games that we have to take care of the football and not turn it over.\"

Sunday\'s game will be the third matchup between Burrow and Mahomes.

Nick Wright had this take about Mahomes and Allen, same goes for Burrow.

“Mahomes is Manning AND Brady. He’s Manning in the regular season and Brady in the postseason. He has more stats AND more championships

Right now Mahomes is more like Aaron Rodgers in the postseason. One ring early in his career then remains to be seen if he wins another.

Rodgers looked like he was gonna surpass Brady after he won his first ring when in like his 2nd or 3rd season starting (similar to Mahomes) and he hasn’t won another one since.

Tom Brady has consistently won championships over the course of his career. That’s the difference between him and Mahomes/Rodgers.

Mahomes had been to more superbowls than Rodgers by the end of his 4th season. He was a couple of plays away from his 3rd straight superbowl last year, please don't put them in the same category. Rodgers is an all time great, Mahomes is levels above him.

The Brady comparison is going to be like the MJ comparison. You just can't do it.

Last time I checked Burrow is undefeated vs the Chiefs.... to quote the great D Wade ... They have to beat us for it to be a Rivalry

Almost winning one or making it to Super Bowls but to not win it doesn’t matter. Rex Grossman has made it to the super bowl. Does anyone care? No because he didn’t win it.

I’m not playing down Mahomes at all, but championships are what matters when it comes to debating great QBs and right now he’s on Rodges tier. He’s still super young so he probably will win more before he retires and then when he does, he will surpass Rodgers. But this was also once said about Rodgers and he’s never won one since and doesn’t look like he will before his career ends either. If Mahomes never wins another super bowl again (unlikely imo considering how great he is but who knows), then yes he will be on the same tier as Rodgers and not “levels above”.
