Baker Mayfield Booked Flight To L.A. Before Rams Claimed Him

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Dec 9, 2022 1:53 pm

After leading the Los Angeles Rams to a comeback win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday night, Baker Mayfield said he had a hunch the team would claim him.

Released by the Carolina Panthers on Monday, Mayfield was claimed the Los Angeles just two days before they faced the Raiders.

\"I took a gamble, I booked the flight before the waiver wire went through,\" Mayfield said.

Mayfield completed 22 of 35 passes for 230 yards and the game-winning touchdown despite not knowing the Rams\' full offense.

Even if they didn’t claim him, I’m sure he wouldn’t haven’t been bored In LA seeing as he’s a celebrity, young and rich.

What he did was pretty darn impressive in my opinion. You can't learn the verbiage in two days, let alone the playbook. I know half the league is running the same base concepts on offense as LA and the Browns offense certainly had a lot of similarities when Baker was there, but I don't even care.

Carolina was a bush league team under Matt Rhule; trying to find a QB that could execute his college playbook instead of building a playbook around the strengths of the QB he had. Immaturity issues aside, Baker has the talent to be in the top half of the QB's in the league. Being too competitive and fiery isn't a problem I'd be overly concerned with. He's only in this situation because Deshaun Watson was available and Baker was understandably pissed about losing his spot after leading the Browns to their first taste of success after decades of futility.

Stafford needs to sit out the rest of the season. The Rams aren't going to advance and he's played through far too many injuries and has had far too many concussions. Stafford shed the fragile label a long time ago and transformed into one of the league's toughest. Now it's time to give his mind and body a nice long break. Training camp is half a year away.

Baker will get every opportunity to showcase what he can do on a real NFL team for the last 4 weeks of the season. I'm rooting for him.
