Giants Heavily Scout Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders Ahead of NFL Draft
The New York Giants have conducted extensive scouting of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders throughout the draft process, making him the most thoroughly examined player by any team this draft season, sources tell ESPN.
Giants officials attended most, if not all, of Sanders\' games last season and observed numerous practices. The organization\'s thorough evaluation process included formal meetings at the NFL Combine, hosting Sanders in New Jersey for a visit, attending his \"Showcase Day\" in Boulder, and conducting a private workout with him exactly one week before the draft.
\"Joe Schoen has lived in Boulder,\" remarked one NFL general manager about the Giants\' level of interest in Sanders.
The Giants benefited from unique insider access through Maileka Slayton, Colorado\'s director of on-campus recruiting and sister of Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton.
Despite the comprehensive evaluation, sources indicate there may not be consensus within the organization about selecting Sanders. People familiar with the situation believe certain segments of the Giants\' front office are more enthusiastic about drafting Sanders than others.
Sanders reportedly desires to be drafted by a team where he has unanimous organizational support, raising questions about whether the Giants fit that criteria.
The private workout held Thursday initially appeared significant but follows the Giants\' established pattern from last year\'s draft, when they conducted similar sessions with Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy, and Bo Nix.
If the Giants pass on Sanders with the third overall pick, they could potentially trade back into the first round to select him later, though some evaluators question this strategy.
\"If they like Shedeur, they\'re taking him at 3,\" said one NFL executive regarding the Giants\' decision.
