Arch Manning Expected To Contend For No. 1 Pick In 2027 NFL Draft

Texas quarterback Arch Manning is expected to return for the 2027 season despite flashing NFL potential in the Longhorns\' upset victory over Texas A&M, according to draft analysts. Manning would be a first-round lock if he declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, but all signs point to him staying in school.

Draft analyst Dane Brugler believes Manning has too much promise for QB-needy teams to pass on in the first round. However, his inexperience showed in field vision and ball placement despite demonstrating toughness and mobility against the Aggies.

Based on conversations with NFL teams, Manning is expected to contend for the No. 1 overall pick in 2027. His physical gifts remain elite, but consistency issues suggest another year of development would benefit his draft stock.

Nick Baumgardner notes Manning entered last weekend as the second-highest-pressured Power 4 starter. The pressure stems from a shaky offensive line rather than Manning\'s decision-making, and that situation should improve next season.

\"If he declared for the 2026 draft, it seems highly unlikely he\'d fall outside the first round,\" Baumgardner said. \"There\'s almost no way he\'d drop beyond the top 50.\"

Texas struggled with run blocking and pass protection for most of the season, particularly in losses. The offense improved significantly against Texas A&M in both areas, leading to more efficient quarterback play.

The Longhorns\' priority this offseason is retaining left tackle Trevor Goosby, running back Tre Wisner, and other core offensive players. Their return would help Manning continue his development and potentially lead Texas deeper into the College Football Playoff.

\"We\'re talking about a guy who\'s started only one year of college ball,\" Baumgardner noted, comparing Manning\'s situation to Alabama\'s Ty Simpson.

Manning\'s 2025 season has been frustrating but productive as he\'s pushed through adversity. Analysts agree he needs more consistency in pocket processing before making the jump to the NFL.
