Kyler Murray Ruled Out For Season Amid Uncertain Future With Cardinals

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Dec 5, 2025 8:00 pm

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray will not return this season as his foot injury has not healed sufficiently, head coach Jonathan Gannon announced Friday. Murray sought a second medical opinion this week before the decision was finalized.

Murray sustained the injury during Arizona\'s Week 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans. He was placed on injured reserve on November 5 after weeks of uncertainty regarding his availability.

The quarterback traveled out-of-state Wednesday to receive an additional medical evaluation and underwent further testing. Those examinations contributed to the determination that Murray cannot play again in 2024.

\"It wasn\'t progressing in a way that we wanted, so we went and got a different opinion, some different people and kind of looked at it, and it\'s just not right,\" Gannon said.

Cardinals Face Uncertainty At Quarterback Position
Wednesday marked the first opportunity for Arizona to open Murray\'s three-week practice window. Gannon confirmed Monday that the team would not activate that window this week.

When Murray initially landed on injured reserve, Gannon expressed hope for a potential return this season. On Friday, the coach acknowledged his disappointment with the outcome.

\"I just feel bad for the quarterback,\" Gannon said. \"He got hurt, and he wasn\'t healthy enough to play.\"

Murray\'s future with the Cardinals has become a subject of widespread speculation throughout the season. When asked whether he expects Murray to remain Arizona\'s starting quarterback in 2025, Gannon declined to address the question.

\"I\'m worried about the Rams right now,\" Gannon said.

Murray is owed $39.8 million fully guaranteed for the 2026 season and $19.5 million of his contract for 2027 becomes fully guaranteed if he remains on the Cardinals\' roster on the fifth day of the 2026 league year.

Murray finishes the 2025 season having played five games with a career low QBR of 46.2 to go with 173 cards on 29 carries rushing.
