Brendan Shanahan has been hired by the NHL to consult in hockey operations. The role is similar to the one Ken Holland performed last season before being hired as general manager of the Los Angeles Kings.
Shanahan hopes to have a chance to run a NHL team again after he parted ways with the Toronto Maple Leafs after 11 seasons as president.
Shanahan spoke with the New York Islanders about their vacancy before Mathieu Darche was hired.
