Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Danny Syvret from the Flyers in exchange for forward Kris Newbury.
Syvret, 28, registered six goals and 34 assists for 40 points, along with 34 penalty minutes in 76 games last season with the AHL Adirondack Phantoms. He led the Phantoms in assists, ranked second in points, tied for third in power play goals (five), and tied for first among team defensemen in goals.
He was originally selected by the Oilers in the third round, 81st overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Newbury, 31, split last season between the Rangers and the Connecticut Whale, tallying one assist in six games with the Blueshirts and 62 points (20 goals, 42 assists) in 70 games with the Whale.
