The Hurricanes have fired the son of owner Peter Karmanos Jr. four days before the start of training camp, according to an ESPN.com report.
The team said Sunday that it had relieved Jason Karmanos of his duties as executive VP and assistant GM, but no reason was given in a news release announcing the move.
Peter Karmanos said in a statement issued later Sunday that it was "a family matter" and declined further comment.
