The Sharks have acquired goalie Evgeni Nabokov from the Lightning for future considerations.
Nabokov is expected to retire at a news conference Wednesday.
The 39-year-old Nabokov is the Sharks' franchise leader in games played for a goalie with 563, wins with 154 and shutouts with 50.
San Jose allowed Nabokov to leave as a free agent following the 2009-10 season.
