Seth Jones would like a trade from the Chicago Blackhawks to play for a more competitive team. The Blackhawks are 94-175-32 in his four seasons with the club.
“I’ve been here the last four years through probably the darkest times the Blackhawks have seen for a while,” Jones said after practice on Friday. “I think things are moving up, they are moving forward. But I think my timeline might be different than Kyle (Davidson) and Norm’s (Maciver) and the Blackhawks. There’s nothing against anybody. I’m not holding it against anybody what they decided to do here. Sometimes it’s not in everyone’s plans.
“Obviously, this is my fourth year here. I’m not going to go through the whole process when I signed. Just where I’m at, you know, 30 years old, I still have some good years ahead. I want to hope to maybe be in a situation where I’m competing for a Stanley Cup, at least playing some meaningful games in May and hopefully June. That’s where I am right now. Discussions with the agent and stuff like that have been going on. Obviously, there’s a lot of moving parts to something like this. But it is what it is, kind of, right now.”
Jones wasn’t sure whether it was realistic he could be dealt before the March 7 trade deadline or if it could be something that happens further down the line.
“It’s hard to put a finger on it, right?” Jone said. “If it happens in the next two weeks, then it happens. If it’s this summer or later on, it is what it is. Obviously, I have a full no-movement and I do control it. At the same time, we only control so much. But, yeah, as long as I’m here as a Blackhawk, I’m going to give 100 percent effort and max every night and try to help this team get better and better.”
