Kirill Kaprizov turned down an eight-year, $128 million contract extension with the Minnesota Wild during a meeting this week. The contract would have been the largest in NHL history based on both annual average value and in total dollars.
Kaprizov is entering the final year of a five-year, $45 million contract and could become an unrestricted free agent during the 2026 offseason.
Kaprizov’s last public comments about re-signing with the team came at the end of the season in May, when he said, “We’ll see. I love everything here. It should be all good.” When asked what was important to him with the decision, he said, “It’s always, every time, it’s about winning. Everyone wants to win. Me, too.”
Kaprizov missed half of the 2024-25 season due to injury, but was an MVP candidate when he went down.
