What grade do you give the Clippers for their offseason?

I grade C. There's not enough basektballs to go around with this whole team. Hope they buy in to the team concept

Doc is a great coach. But the Clippers would be better getting the Nets deal

Garnett, Pierce and Terry will help a team more than Doc.

I think that the Clippers deserve a legit A. First they brought in a great coach in Doc (not to knock Vinny). WIth Dudley and Reddick you got two great 3 pt shooters, which spreads the floor out and have two guys to who can shoot if they miss you have Deandre and Blake to get boards. Also they recently signed Mullens who is a great second line centre.

I think that the deal for Redick and Dudley has been underappreciated so far. Bledsoe really looked like he was plateauing last season during the times that he was forced to play longer minutes, and savvy, veteran shooters, who still aren't on the downsides of their careers, can help a team that struggled to score in different ways and space the floor in the playoffs. Dudley, in particular, brings tons of intangibles, and can handle himself pretty well inside on offense and defense, going after rebounds, loose balls, and looking for open teammates or easy shots. I think of him as a bit like a mini-Luis Scola - he's got a game a bit more tailored to his size, but their yeomanlike performances on a consistent basis help glue a team together. Redick, too, brings a solid game, and one that has really come together the last few seasons, and in the right environment he will bring tenacity and clutch-shooting confidence that every good team needs. Plus, neither of these guys demand the ball, but will find plays to make, inside the team's system, on both sides of the ball. Redick, at times, had a less-than-stellar reputation for being needy early in his career, but he understands the game now (and where he fits in it), and is ready to make the leap to the next level of competition as a solid contributor

Getting the three players from the Celtics, instead of their coach (or in addition to acquiring Doc Rivers) could be great for a season or two, but for less money, and with many fewer miles on their bodies, the Celtics managed to get two players that fit the holes in their roster and save themselves picks that they would have possibly lost in the trade. That said, I guess Brian Shaw must have some pretty poor interviewing skills, because that man should have had an head coaching job long ago, including landing with the Clips. Byron Scott, also mentioned in the coaching rumours, would probably have been a good fit with the team (especially given his previous success with Chris Paul) and for a lot less money than Doc is going to get.

Overall, I give the offseason an A, because the Clips have also added skilled big man and willing rebounder Byron Mullens up front, and a young, backup point guard to grow behind Paul, in Darren Collison. What's more, they have added much-needed depth without getting older or taking on big salaries, and they have a coach coming in that they will trust implicitly, and follow to the letter. If the Clippers remain healthy this season, they should expect to make a bit more noise in the playoffs than they have during the past few years, but in a stacked Western Conference, they need a bit of luck, and their bench to come together smoothly to reach the conference finals. Rivers is coming for a high price (given his salary, and the sacrifice of a pick to get him), but if there is any time to pay a premium for a head coach with championship experience, it's now, when a maturing team is looking to blossom into a contender. Gary Sacks might fashion a name for himself out of this Summer if the Clippers can weave some magic in the playoffs.
