No one cares about a play-in tournament. It just hurts the teams fighting to avoid it.

Get RID of it, Adam.

Yes it makes an excitement for our beloved game, more teams participating, makes a better playoff, the folks that don't like it, do not have to watch.

There are pros in cons of having one and not having one. The pros of having one is that it reduces the amount of teams tanking. Teams in the 11-12 range can have something to play for. The con of having one is that it screws over the 7 seed, who might win 50 games or so in a given year in the West.

If the playoffs are supposed to be about the best in each conference competing, then it makes no sense to suddenly give the #9/10 seeds a chance. You're basically tossing out an 82 game sample size in favour of 1-2 games.

Better idea would be to have a crossover where the #9/10 seeds of one conference play the 7-8 seeds of the other conference, contingent on #9/10 having a better record.

I'm okay with it because of the whole covid situation right now. I think when teams have decent home records who could be better it is partly because athletes play better and thrive in that home fan oriented environment. But when things get back to normal then yea scrap it. I don't think it's fair if a team is 42-40 in the 8th in the East against a 10th seed team 10 games below .500. Clearly that 8th spot team worked hard to earn their spot. What if the 10th seed team did that deliberately to rest players only for their star players to be more rested come April, well, then most likely that 10th seed team will upset the 8th seed team. Does that mean if the 10th seed team had a far worse record compared to the 8th seed team, the 10th seed team should be granted higher draft pick? How is that fair? That's the angles I am looking at for these play-in-tournaments.

Besides in a sense we kind of do have play in tournaments and that's battling for the 8th spot during the last week of the season with the 9th seed team trying to get in that decides the fate of that 8th seed and 9th seed. If Silver and the NBA are trying to 'curb' tanking well honestly who cares, if half your team are on 1 year contracts and the organization is in disarray sometimes you got to tank to land that top 3 pick. Look at what Cleveland did in 2002-03, they clearly tanked even though they had Carlos Boozer, Darius Miles and Ricky Davis...good players overall but the Cavs wanted LeBron, the kid from Akron, Ohio. That pick completely changed Cleveland's organization and LeBron and the Cavs probably would have won a few more titles had Golden State not been in the way with their level of talent.

I understand this format for this year, but I can't be the only one who wants the first round to be a 1 game series. It would make the playoffs so much more interesting. Or we could at least make the seeding 1-16 seeds, not 2 sets of 8. I personally like this idea, but it may just be because I like March Madness too much lol. Let me know what you think
