The obvious pick is Booker. He is old, more developed and proven.

However, Booker plays guard, meaning he will be competing against Curry, Harden, Paul for the honor. Ayton is a center so the competition is a little lighter, unless they list him as a forward. But I still they pickings among bigs is slimmer than among guards.

I think Ayton. Booker is pretty damn good, but there are too many good guards in the West.

It's probably a cop out answer, but it depends on the situation. While Ayton may have an easier road to the all-star game because of his position, Booker has already established himself as a household name with his elite scoring ability. That alone gives him an edge in the fan vote, since most fair-weather fans really only look at ppg. But if voting did come down to coaches, then Ayton might get an edge with less competition at his position, not to mention he has shown himself to have an affable personality. With Cousins going to Golden State and probably not playing until January, his biggest competition will be AD, Towns, DJ, and Jokic. I could see him beating the latter of the 4 in the next couple of years, assuming he plays defense. All things considered, I'll bet my money on Booker, but I wouldn't be all that surprised either way.

both would be if they played in the East, but too much competition in the West

They're usually going to take 2 centers in an AS game: AD and Towns should have the inside track on those spots for the near future, and you can throw in Jokic and Gobert as two other extremely deserving guys out west. There's not much room left; Ayton would have to be a complete revelation to crack the top 2 against that comp.

I agree, but thats the inside track. Bigs tend to get injured playing this uptempo game.

Booker on the other hand has to contend with:

Curry, Harden, Westbrook, CP3, Lillard, Kemba, Klay, Donovan Mitchell, Jimmy Butler, Murray, Dennis Smith Jr, CJ McCollum...

That's even tougher to crack.

Ayton is their future. Booker is their mistake.

The Magic would give up their entire roster for Devin Booker.
