I don't like the idea of playing two centers in a modern NBA offense. You're asking a 33 year old 6'10 Al Horford to defend young, athletic wings on the perimeter? So many teams are playing small ball. Horford guarding the 4 full time just doesn't seem like a good idea. Even on offense, Horford is best in the low and high post, just like Embiid. Last year Horford made 1.1 3PT per game at 36%. Not bad but not a stretch 4.

It's not just the confusing front court, but losing Butler/Reddick in the back court for Richardson is a downgrade. Sure Richardson is younger, but he's basically a poor mans Butler. The thing this team was hurting on after trading RoCo and Saric was ranged shooting and they haven't done anything to improve that this off season. Harris might be their best volume shooter now (Richardson struggled in that role for the Heat) unless Zhaire Smith can break out large...

Anyone who judges Horford on numbers is always going to find multiple glitches. This guy is a winner first and foremost. Second he had guys like Kyrie, Brown, Tatum, Hayward, Rozier to play around and none of these guys are even considered good playmakers. They’re all selfish guys trying to be the best in the world. He’s going to have Ben Simmons to play beside now and guys like Embiid who just want to win. Horford is a perfect fit for this team, in fact I think sixers take the East if Kawhi leaves without any competition. Horford is also the type of guy to not mind coming off the bench while still getting starter minutes just to stagger some of the minutes between himself and embiid.

i agree, and now your moving Tobias back to the small forward where hes terrible on defense. Also he shot terrible since coming to Philly and now you are about to pay him 36 mil a year. No way Richardson and Horford are better than Butler and reddick

Let’s not forget Butler was also Philly’s best player in the playoffs and it wasn’t even close. If Philly is better this year, it will likely be due to the growth of Embiid and Simmons.

Philly of course has improved. It's simple addition by subtraction. With Jimmy gone to skipper his own ship, the squad doesn't not have to sail off into next year on a floating powder keg. Add that new co-admiral Ben Simmons should take steps forward in every area of his game and so should Jo and you have to figure that their chances have improved. The others should help to assist the hole Jimmy's absence leaves making fine bosuns mates, coxswain, and first mates, and able-bodied deck hands.

I think they'll be worse.
They lost their primary ball-handler down the stretch and one of the most dangerous screen & shoot players in the league. Big fan of Horford but he's not nearly as nimble as Reddick. I'm pretty bearish on Simmons too, fwiw.

If the NBA refs.. actually refs in general would stop swallowing their whistles in the post and call fouls the same way whether on the perimeter or in the paint, we would actually see some good big man basketball again. Footwork, Solid basketball.

Instead of the run and chuck that many teams employ, even if it actually hurts their overall chances of winning.
