Virgil van Dijk has suggested Liverpool is planning significant transfer market activity this summer as they look to build on their successful first season under head coach Arne Slot.
Van Dijk, who scored the winner against West Ham United on Sunday to extend Liverpool\'s lead atop the Premier League table to 13 points over Arsenal, expressed confidence in the club\'s ambitions for the transfer window.
\"I think Liverpool should be able to challenge for titles in the upcoming years,\" he said after the game.
\"Whatever happens in terms of players going out, players coming in, I think it should be a big summer. I think they\'re planning to make it a big summer, so we all have to trust the board, as a Liverpool connected fan, to do the right job.\"
The Reds now need just six points from their remaining six games to secure the club\'s 20th league title. While focused on the current campaign, attention is already turning to the squad\'s future composition.
Van Dijk himself is out of contract at the end of the season, though sources have told ESPN he is expected to sign a two-year extension following teammate Mohamed Salah\'s recent commitment through 2027.
When asked about his own contract situation, Van Dijk was measured but hinted at potential developments: \"Let\'s see how this week goes. I think first, all the focus should be going to the Hillsborough anniversary... but maybe there\'s some news. I don\'t know. I know, but I don\'t know.\"
The Dutch defender also reflected on his connection to the club, saying: \"Being successful with Liverpool; the culture of the club, everything that embodies Liverpool that is just part of me.\"
