Kylian Mbappe has apologized after receiving a straight red card in Real Madrid\'s 1-0 LaLiga victory at Alavés on Sunday, according to Real Madrid assistant coach Davide Ancelotti.
The French forward was dismissed in the 38th minute following a VAR review for a high tackle on midfielder Antonio Blanco. The incident occurred just four minutes after Eduardo Camavinga had given Madrid the lead.
The numerical disadvantage was later neutralized when Alaves defender Manu Sanchez was also sent off in the second half after catching Vinicius Junior on the calf.
Despite playing with 10 men for much of the match, Madrid secured a crucial victory to remain in the LaLiga title race. They now sit four points behind leaders Barcelona, who defeated Leganés 1-0 on Saturday.
\"Kylian isn\'t a violent lad for sure; he\'s said sorry, he\'s aware of the mistake he made,\" said Davide Ancelotti, who was in charge with his father Carlo suspended after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season during Madrid\'s previous match against Valencia.
\"All the little fouls they committed on him made him react in that way. It wasn\'t the right way, I\'m not justifying it, but that\'s what happened.\"
This was Mbappe\'s first red card since joining Real Madrid last summer. The forward had previously been sent off three times during his tenure at Paris Saint-Germain.
Madrid now awaits a decision from the Spanish football federation regarding the length of Mbappe\'s suspension. He is likely to miss upcoming league fixtures against Athletic Club and Getafe, raising questions about his availability for the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26.
The victory provides Madrid with a confidence boost ahead of their Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Arsenal on Wednesday, where they will attempt to overturn a 3-0 deficit from the first leg.
\"What happened [against Alaves] made it a bit more difficult for us, but winning gives us confidence for what we want to happen on Wednesday [in the second leg],\" Ancelotti added.
The match at Mendizorroza was briefly halted in the second half when referee Cesar Soto Grado stopped play following chants of \"Asencio, die\" from the crowd directed at Madrid defender Raúl Asencio, who had earlier had a goal disallowed.
